Backup Generators - Perfect Emergency Systems for Home or Business
A backup generator is used to provide back-up electrical power to a home or business when an emergency or blackout occurs. Frequently, backup generators are installed stationary units, however they can also be portable.
Good backup generators must be able to provide emergency relief in the winter months when power outages are fostered by heavy snowstorms, or in the midst of hot weather, in the aftermath of hurricanes, or tornados. Backup home generator systems can be air or liquid-cooled, and in deciding which to go with, consider what the outside temperatures are likely to be when these backup home generator systems are needed. For instance, in hot, tropical climates, liquid-cooled models may be better because they are less likely to be negatively impacted by heat during operation.
T-Rex Generators features diesel backup generators, as well as backup generators that operate on natural gas or propane. We also harbor large gasoline-burning or Tri-Fuel (gasoline, propane, natural gas) portable models that can make excellent residential backup generators, as they are able to power the primary circuits in small to medium-sized homes or home-based businesses.
The type of generator you decide to purchase really depends on need. Some people would prefer to not have a permanently installed unit outside the home or business. In these cases, you can simply use a portable generator and either run cords from the generator into the home/business to power individual appliances, or you can have a manual transfer switch installed next to the circuit box and power individual circuits within the home/business through the transfer switch. A manual transfer switch coupled with a portable generator is always a good option. To see how one of these manual transfer switches function, please visit the following link on our website: Manual Transfer Switches
The installed standby units are a little different than the portable models. These units are typically installed with an automatic transfer switch (ATS). The ATS detects a utility power loss and then starts the generator automatically and switches the circuits in the home or building to generator power. Within seconds of losing utility power, the generator has started and the home/business is running on generator power. When the utility power is restored, the ATS detects this as well and then shuts the generator down and switches the circuits back to utility power. For homes and businesses that lose power often, this is a much more convenient method of operation.
