Did You Know That Briggs & Stratton....

....Was responsible for introducing the popular ALUMINUM ENGINE?

Briggs Stratton FLYERWhile its popularity has soared in the past two decades, the aluminum engine was actually introduced in the nineteen-fifties - as a weight-saving measure for early rotary-style lawn mowers. The engine itself first appeared in 1953. The year 1958 was marked by the initial all-aluminum powerplant, and the very first aluminum powerplant with a cast-iron cylinder sleeve - very much in vogue today!

....Developed the first GASOLINE ELECTRIC HYBRID car?

True. Looking to capitalize on the energy crisis of the late 1970s, in 1980 the company Classicdesigned a two-cylinder sixteen-horsepower automobile. The machine utilized a Briggs Stratton motor and, by today's standards, an oversized and archaic electric battery. The end of the energy crisis sent this revolutionary project into the archives. The timing may have been off - but, thirty years later, it appears that B & S engineers were thinking in the right direction.

....Originated the SOLID STATE IGNITION system?

Introduced in 1982, this electronic unit made obsolete the points-and-condenser method of operating a small internal-combustion engine.Buckboard FLYER Because its operation did not suffer between scheduled maintenance intervals, the Solid State system perhaps enhanced small-engine reliability as much as any innovation of the late 20th century.
