Industrial Diesel Generators

Industrial DIESEL generators are the true POWERHOUSES of standby ENERGY.

Brand New Kohler Being Unwrapped On The Snow-Packed Midwest Tundra
Statistics make it clear that power outages in the United States are continually increasing in number and severity. This makes it all the more critical for businesses to have a backup strategy in place. Here at T-Rex, we believe that the cornerstone of a viable emergency plan for any commercial entity is an industrial diesel generators unit. Why diesel - as opposed to another fuel type? The answer could be the diesel motor's superior efficiency based on gallons of fuel consumed. Or, instead, it might be the longer service life (significantly longer than you can expect from any gas-burning equivalent) of the diesel engine. Neither of those? Then what about reduced maintenance costs, or the extended oil-change intervals created by diesel's excellent lubricative properties. Whatever your reason for selecting an industrial diesel generators model, its reliable backup power will keep your employees and business productive and safe every time the utility company lets you down.

Unfortunately, WHEN the power FAILS, it is likely to FAIL at the WORST possible MOMENT.

That's right. Heightened demands on the power grid can cause it to fail during peak usage periods. And if consumer demand for heaters and AC during the nastiest parts of winter or summer don't manage to shut the doors of your business for days or longer, natural forces like the tornado, earthquake, hurricane, or flood can easily happen along to finish the job. Even something as innocuous as a fender bender can afflict power in a location for hours or days if a critical line goes down. This is why the smartest businesses prepare for the worst - by installing standby backup generators - before they're really needed.

Use a PROFESSIONAL to help you ASSESS your backup power NEEDS.

By this, we mean a certified generator technician, or, better yet, a skilled electrician. These individuals can be instrumental in helping you select the right-sized and equipped generator for whatever your power needs encompass. Do you know exactly how much square footage you need to back up? Do you know if your application requires single or three-phase electricity? Some business owners are able to answer these questions immediately, others have given them far less consideration. In the minds of many, electricity is electricity - single-phase or three-phase - it all operates the same light bulbs and plays the same TVs, powers the same laptops or coffee makers. Very true. The place to begin generator selection is always with the critical wattage that your backup machine must power - those items whose operation you regard as a necessity (rather than a luxury). Once you know the amount of wattage you need, you can determine the minimum output an application must have to run effectively. All applications are distinct and different, but, in general, a 10 kilowatt generator can power a home-based or similar small business, a free-standing commercial location such as a warehouse or store that does not handle food or other perishable items will require more than 35 kilowatts, and a restaurant or food retailer needs at least 60 kilowatts. And go forward from there.

Industrial DIESEL generator OPTIONS are not SIMPLY related to OUTPUT.

Some of the best and most-useful features of a diesel generator have nothing whatever to do with the amount of wattage it produces. Critical questions often aren't about wattage, or square feet. The best options are often those that make generator operation simple, convenient, and easy on the budget. Climate resistance, for instance, is a key part of any generator model's construction. With a standby unit more than likely spending its full service life outside, exposed to the elements of a location, you definitely want it protected. Most enclosures currently available (especially on diesel units) are composed of rust-resistant steel, however, if it can be found, an aluminum shell - totally resistant to rust - can be a nice low-maintenance alternative. There is some debate as to the proper length of start-up delay after utility power has failed. The correct delay may, in fact, vary by jurisdiction. An adjustable controller on one unit will provide a little bit more flexibility than the controller of another model which harbors built-in preset intervals. And, with a diesel generator, fuel-tank size (and sometimes its shape or configuration) can also be important.

Most of ALL, never TAKE your electric POWER for granted!

Let's take a look at some kilowatt ratings and see what can be operated with each. The smallest industrial diesel generators unit we feature is Kohler's 10 kW liquid-cooled model. Featuring Yanmar power, this machine is usually a good choice for 1800 to 2400 square feet of shop space. This is particularly true if the shop space in question is semi-residential (boasts similar power demands to a home application). A machine of twice this Kohler's size, 20 kW, is often an effective option for shop space within the realm of 4000 to 5300 square feet. For a true commercial location, you're likely to need 40 kW or more (35 kW is what we consider the base). The largest residential generator any of us here at T-Rex Generators has seen is 300 kW - a diesel unit that powered multiple structures on a single piece of property roughly the size of a city block. We can easily imagine some residential locations requiring even more than 300 kW of backup electricity. The mightiest standby generator we currently offer, a 3250 kW diesel with Detroit Diesel MTU power, can operate 320000 square feet - that's three plus average-sized Wal-Mart Supercenters. This same model could power at least six typical Dillard's or Kohl's locations! How's that for backup?
