HOW TO RESOURCE: RUNNING YOUR BOLIY GENERATOR

In this section, you will find information on the following:

MAKING NOTE OF SERIAL NUMBER
STARTING GENERATOR ENGINE
ATTACHING LOAD
USING ECONOMY CONTROL SWITCH
STOPPING GENERATOR ENGINE

MAKING NOTE OF SERIAL NUMBER:

REMEMBER: that taking note of serial number on machine can not only help in ordering replacement parts from manufacturer, it can help you reclaim property in the event of theft!

STARTING GENERATOR ENGINE:

To start your Boliy generator, follow these procedures:

CAUTION: do not connect load to generator until it is running.

A)Be sure engine is FILLED WITH OIL(see how to section BOLIY FUEL & ENGINE OIL RECOMMENDATIONS).

B)Turn FUEL COCK(located in front panel beneath recoil start) from off to ON position.

C)Pull CHOKE KNOB(located directly above recoil start) until fully engaged.

TIP: when choke is operating properly, full engagement should produce about ONE HALF inches of clearance.

CAREFUL: not to over pull choke. Over pulling can break choke cable.

D)Turn ENGINE SWITCH(located in control panel to left of AC outlets) from off to ON.

E)Pull RECOIL START.

BE AWARE: that if you are fueling generator engine for first time from box, or after fuel lines have been emptied for long term storage, motor may require 10 to 15 pulls to start. You can help to prime lines with fuel by insuring tank is filled to at least ONE HALF capacity!

TIP: choke is often not required to start warm engine. After several pulls of recoil start, if a warm engine has not responded, engage choke.

F)Manufacturer recommends that motor be allowed to warm up completely(from 2 to 5 minutes) before LOAD IS CONNECTED.

BE AWARE: at temperatures below freezing(32 degrees F), Boliy generator is designed to idle at a predetermined rpm for 3 minutes. This allows motor oil, thickened by colder temperatures, to circulate throughout engine. Do not be alarmed if, under these conditions, you are unable to affect engine speed manually for first few minutes of operation.

G)Disengage choke as soon as engine catches.

TIP: Boliy operation manual recommends that choke be engaged until motor warms up; we have found that Boliy generator motor warms up better with choke off.

ATTACHING LOAD:

CAUTION: during normal use, connected appliances should not consume above eighty percent of maximum running watts of generator. This reduces chance of damage or overheating.

CAUTION: the Boliy Pro Series inverter generator creates cleanest sine wave in industry, however some precision electronic equipment exists(certain medical devices for instance) which should not be run by ANY portable generator, including an inverter. If you have doubts about a piece of equipment, consult its vendor or manufacturer for exact instructions.

USING GENERATOR AC FUNCTION:

A)With generator engine started, plug load into outlet(s).

CAUTION: be sure that electrical devices are turned off before plugging them into generator outlets. This will save wear and tear on engine.

CAUTION: be sure that rated watts of your appliances do not exceed maximum running wattage of generator.

TIP: for best results, spread load as evenly as possible between generator outlets.

B)Check to make sure AC indicator is flickering(located at bottom left of outlet panel). This means that electrical system of generator is functioning properly.

REMEMBER: since AC pilot lamp doubles as overload indicator, it will go off automatically when load is engaged, and will remain off during operation unless overload is detected.

C)Turn on electric devices. For best results, activate devices in order of required running watts.

USING AC PILOT LIGHT OVERLOAD INDICATOR:

On your Boliy generator, the AC pilot lamp(located at bottom left of outlet panel) doubles as an overload indicator.

When load has been engaged, activation of pilot light can mean several things:

D)An overload has occurred.

E)The computer module controlling inverter function of generator has overheated.

F)A short circuit has been detected.

When any of these conditions has been met, the computer module will interrupt electrical power to the generator outlets immediately. Be aware that engine will NOT stop running.

If generator outlets stop producing power:

G)Check the AC pilot light for possible overload. If overload is detected, light will be glowing steadily.

If overload indicator HAS come on, and generator power has stopped, follow these guidelines:

H)Turn OFF all connected appliances.

I)Check again to be sure that running watts of connected appliances do not exceed wattage output of generator.

J)If load does not exceed recommended wattage, check for debris buildup around computer control unit, and blockages in air cleaner of generator. If any are discovered, remove.

K)If neither of these possibilities appears to be cause of interrupted power, then there may be a short circuit in one of the connected devices. Disconnect load, restart generator, and plug appliances in one by one, beginning with appliance requiring highest number of watts. This procedure should allow you to identify faulty device.

REMEMBER: the electronic circuit breaker in your Boliy generator can only be reset by restarting unit. Until generator has been shut down and restarted, no power will reach outlet panel!

DC CIRCUIT BREAKER:

The DC circuit breaker in your Boliy control panel is designed to trip if your DC load exceeds generator output. Circuit breaker can be reset simply by pressing.

If circuit breaker trips again after load has been reduced to specified levels, breaker could be defective. Consult your authorized dealer for further instructions.

USING DC BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM:

CAUTION: never attempt to use AC and DC power simultaneously. Doing so can damage generator.

To use DC current for battery charging, do the following:

L)With motor turned off, connect battery charging cables to DC outlet; wrap 2 to 3 times around generator handle to eliminate cable play for safety.

M)Start engine. Generator motor should be running before you connect cable ends to battery.

N)Depress DC circuit breaker(located to immediate right of DC outlet) before you connect charging cables to battery.

TIP: the Boliy DC outlet capacity is 12 volts; this means that one 12 volt(automotive style) battery can be charged, or, if they are connected in parallel, that two 6 volt batteries can be charged simultaneously.

O)When connecting the battery you wish to charge, red charging wire should be attached to positive battery terminal; black charging wire should be connected to negative battery terminal. Never reverse these connections!

CAUTION: before charging any battery, examine its casing and leads and connectors for damage. If damage to battery casing is discovered, battery probably needs replacing. Any crack in the casing will require a new battery.

CAUTION: if the DC circuit breaker trips during battery charging operation, check to be sure that connected load does not exceed the recommended 12 volts of DC outlet.

If load does not exceed recommended voltage, reset circuit breaker, and reinstall battery. If the circuit breaker trips again, consult your authorized Boliy dealer.

For tips on handling and charging batteries, see how to section BOLIY GENERATOR AC & DC FUNCTIONS or how to section PORTABLE GENERATOR SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS!

USING ECONOMY CONTROL SWITCH:

Your economy setting is designed to save fuel and engine wear by keeping generator engine at idle until load is connected.

When load is connected, computer module will automatically increase engine rpm enough to power that load. If a full load is connected, generator will run at maximum rpm.

MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS: that if high wattage load is connected to generator, you turn economy switch OFF to enhance efficiency and limit voltage changes.

STOPPING GENERATOR ENGINE:

For best results, follow these steps when stopping engine:

A)TURN OFF and DISCONNECT all electric devices.

B)Flip engine switch(located at top left of outlet panel) from on to OFF position.

C)Turn FUEL COCK(located below recoil start) from on to OFF.
