Standby generators range in size from as little as 8kW to 1000kW and more. Smaller models are air-cooled single-phase (120/240V) machines that are typically used for emergency backup power in homes. Each of the different sizes/phases/fuels/voltages can be selected by clicking on the appropriate choice in the above boxes.

Small Size (Up to 20kW) - Best for Home Emergency Backup Power

A small standby generator is the perfect solution for automatic home standby power. These generators can sometimes be purchased in packages with either an automatic transfer switch (ATS), or load center. Automatic standby generators represent the ultimate in convenience. The generator starts automatically when there is a loss of utility power. It shuts automatically when utility power has been restored. Air-cooled standby units are almost always fueled by propane (LP or LPG) or natural gas (NG).
  • Generator automatically starts when a utility power loss is detected.
  • Generator shuts down automatically when utility power has been restored.
  • Can cover critical circuits for items like a well or sump pump, furnace or AC, fridge, overhead lighting, computer, tv, etc.

Medium Size (21 to 50kW) - Best for Home or Business

These generators possess larger, more-powerful liquid-cooled motors than their smaller air-cooled siblings, power that is used to provide greater backup capacity. Medium-sized single-phase units (roughly 21 to 30kW) are good for the backup of a large home or small business. Three-phase units, and those between 30 and 50 kilowatts are most often used in business applications.

Large Size (51 to 100kW)- Best for Business Applications

If you are a business owner, you understand the financial ramifications of lost power. If power goes down, you lose both employee productivity and the ability to service your customers. All of these issues can be addressed with the installation of a high quality standby generator and ATS (automatic transfer switch). Standby electricity means that business forges ahead, utility power or no utility power. Investing in an emergency backup generator can pay for itself quickly - especially in locations where utility power is erratic or unreliable.

Extra-Large Size (Over 100kW)- Best for Commercial Applications

With kilowatt levels of one to four thousand or more, with the capacity to be operated in tandem to effectively increase output, these units can provide sufficient standby electricity to power virtually any application, regardless of size.
